I drove in from Socorro this morning and noticed it was very hazy through most of Socorro and northern Sierra county. No local fires in sight so I'm assuming it must have been from the smoke blowing in from the west.
A few fires were active in the region today. A wildfire in Mexico brought smoke over Dona Ana county this afternoon as the NOAA HMS smoke product shows.
Looking at the National Weather Service hazards map tonight it doesn't look like we are in May. Below the hazard map at 2:48 UTC shows the majority of New Mexico in some kinds of winter storm situation.
