March 10 and 11 - So busy with proposals that past couple of days but here's a summary of conditions over the two days.
March 10
Highs for the day ranged from 72 at the Las Cruces Airport and Antelope Wells, 75F at NMSU, Santa Teresa and Deming, and 76 at the El Paso International Airport. A few high clouds during most of the day in southern NM. Below is the morning MODIS image from the Terra spacecraft.
Today's AQI forecast shows an area of moderate air quality in southern NM and west Texas.
March 11
NMSU started the day with a low of 37F and a high of 81F. The predicted high was to be 80F. The NWS forecasts also showed a breezy afternoon with gusts reaching 25 mph. That was not enough for dust except for the most erodible locations.
Early morning we saw a low wind high PM event along the border. The PM10 at the Sunland Park City Yard station peak at 233 µg/m3 at 7 am, while PM2.5 was 57 µg/m3.
The outlook for the next wind event is quite a ways out. On Friday March 18th there might be chance for another system. That's pushing it, but here is the prediction for winds that afternoon based on the 80-km GFS run at 12Z.
